9. Enneagram Type 5 - The Observer
C.H.O.I.C.E. with the Emotional Mastery Foundation with Andrea Isaacs • 20-Mar-2020
Take out your Mantra Sheet that you filled out during the last call. You’ll be adding to it. If you need another one, go ahead and print it again, and — this is important — fill in your final mantra from last time.
This is a “growing” document!, and will become a prompt for your daily practice so that change can be easy.
Type Five models the resilience tool of being able to focus.
Stress is distracting. We may intend to do one thing, and get pulled to another, sometimes for good reason, but then not getting back to whatever it was we had wanted to focus on.
The benefit of focus is not only getting stuff done. It’s more fully understanding whatever it is you want to understand and mastering a body of knowledge.
This pandemic has given us a multitude of things to understand. AND, sharing wisdom is an expression of the Five's care and concern.
We can build more resilience if we don’t “over-do” that focus!
When that happens, the Fives can get lost in focusing on something for hours, forgetting to take care of basic personal needs, forgetting that others are even there, and forgetting to engage in life.
They often feel safer in their head, figuring things out, and then they don’t engage with others or the world.

Which of the mantras you experienced would be most important for you to cultivate in yourself?
Do you need more of the Five’s gift, or something to diminish their challenge? Perhaps it’s some of each.
Take out your Mantra Sheet, and write down your final mantra for Type Five in the appropriate box.
Practice the mantra and the mudra as often as possible.
Practiced when you don’t need it. That’s how you strengthen the neural pathway. Then it’s more likely to be there for you when you do need it.
This is what makes change easy!
