What is your Tribe?
What part of yourself have you disenfranchised to be accepted into that tribe?
How do you tell yourself that this tribe helps you to survive?
Types of Tribes
Birth Tribe (Family)
Old Tribe (Old Friends)
If you’re in an old tribe that doesn’t evolve, everything is history.
National Tribe (Country)
How often do you find yourself saying, “this is the way we do it around here.” This is a closed mindset.
When you consider who is your future self - also ask “who is your future tribe?”
We get addicted to our identity and also addiction to our tribe.
Think about people who have an addiction, most of them know that their addiction is bad for them. And most fall into their addictions when they are disenfranchised from their tribe. Their addiction is supported by those who are also addicted. Many find it hard to leave their addictions because they are addicted to their tribe.
To break free from the addiction of your tribe, you must have a conscious divorce from that tribe. Tribes can keep you in a framework that will limit you to your history that does not step you into your future self and future tribe.
How is your bias in the way of having the people and skills you want in your tribe? It is hard to leave the tribe that cheers for you. You will lose their attention, acceptance and approval. For example: which football teams are you cheering for?
Can you answer the question, “who is cheering for you?”
Whose success are you celebrating?
Do you even acknowledge your own success?
You need to find a tribe of people who are aspiring beyond where you are at. Surround yourself with others who will recognize and cheer for you when you push yourself to grow, change and evolve.
Dov shares a humorous story about a daughter learning how to cook a pork loin by watching her mother.
Traditions are mostly caused by peer pressure from people who are dead.
Rituals of the living tribe
Eye Contact
Relaxed Body Language
Connected and Supported
These create a culture that promotes people to flourish.Dov shares about his childhood growing up in a ghetto where he was surrounded by crime and violence. He never felt like he truly fit in. He recalls when Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. died.
He heard for the first time the “I have a dream” speech and how it impacted his poor Jewish mother to the point of tears. It was at that moment that he remembered that he had to make a difference. Which finally led to his decision to move.
Dov moved from the UK to Canada
Dov intentionally created for himself multiple tribes! leaving tribes for new tribes
Map your the Tribes of your life
Examine each tribe as you map them out.
Ask yourself…
”What tribes did I dismiss?”
“What tribes did I get addicted to?”
Design your future tribe that’s not dependent on who or what you know now
Design the tribe you want to walk into and then ask yourself…
“What skills do I need to be a part of this tribe?”
You will have to let go of things that work to be in your present tribe.
Explain skills are need for you to belong to your new tribe
Who is cheering for you in the very idea of your dreams?
A tribe that can’t cheer for you, is not your tribe.
I”m cheering for you for creating a community of belonging
Who will suffer if you keep playing small? The world awaits you in all of your magnificence.
